I am looking for a reliable and cheap 19" flat screen monitor.

Can anyone recommend a good one?
I've read the review on the iiYama monitor but it is hard to find in Toronto.

I'm looking at Samsung and Viewsonic models. They seem to be esy to get.

Thanks

Samsung 900NF.

Never heard a bad thing about this monitor (except for things that apply to ALL Aperture Grill monitors).

I have one and I love it.

I sell comps at a store, won't say where, but if you shop there, you'll definitely find a "Best Buy", and i see a lot. One of the best is the KDS 19" AV-195TF, big reason cause it's a true flat screen, by Sony, if not, another good one is the Samsung 955DF, samsung makes great monitors too. Stay away from Viewsonic. Good brand, but i wouldn't touch em.

I just got the iiyama i90a and am not overally satisfied with it. In the specs I failed to noticed that the dot pitch decreases to .27 mm at the edges which is very noticable at 1280x1024. Text is noticably blurring in these areas. And I don't mean the very near edges. In the center of the screen text is real sharp buts gets noticably less so in the outer 25% of the screen (I am also running with BNC cables and a Radeon--so it does lie with the monitor). Running at 1600x1200 is not really an option either. Everything else about the display has worked real well.

In retrospect then, I think I should have gone with the Sony G400 which has a .24 dot pitch and sets 1600x1200 as a recomended resolution (for whatever that is worth to ya). You can get it now at Onvia for $515 with no shipping charges--quite a deal. Wish I had waited for the G400.

My vote is for the Samsung 900NF. Excellent specs, good brand name, and decent price.

Like MCS said, the only things I hear bad about it is is SLIGHT geometry errors that all AG monitors have.

My friend has the Samsung 955DF. Awesome monitor! And great freaking price... probably the best value there is for a flat screen. I personally use two Hitachi CM771's on my desk. Been obsessed with Hitachi's since I got into computers...

I bought a Samsung 955DF about 2 months ago for $365 including tax.

The only complaint I have with it was the way it was packed in the box (packed in very brittle styrofoam). The first one I got had a nice dent in the faceplate, so I called samsung and they had me a another one delivered to my door in 2 days. Problem was, this one had a 2" crack in the faceplate and looked even worse than the first one. 3rd time was a charm. Obviously the packaging is terrible, but it's nice to know they have good customer service.
It has a great picture and the onscreen features are easy to navigate and use.

the 955df isn't as good, its 1600x1200 refresh rates are only like 66hz or so. The 900 ift or 900nf are good. I've got a av195tf now and its awesome. 85hz at 1600x1200, same tube basically as the sony g400. Dont buy a KDS visual sensations line, i had one and it broke twice and they let me upgrade to the av195tf for $140. Some people have had luck with the visual sensations, and the picture quality and features are good. Mine broke and i dont like that, though KDS does have excellent RMA and customer service.

I've had a Samsung 955DF for a little over a month now. I am very pleased with the image quality. I bought mine for $349 (shipping included). I'm not sure how it compares in size to other monitors, but this thing seems HUGE on my desk. Other than that, I couldn't be happier. Great bang-for-your-bucks.
