I use to know one place in westchester but lost directions. I am looking for small lake in middle of woods or just seperated from community. I wanna go for memorial day picnic, but dont wanna other people to be there or disturbed by park rangers. it will be about 8 of us, just want private time , camp fire, swim in the lake, fish, BBQ

You might want to look into Bear Mountain... we were there for recreational stuff and a barbecue. We also drove by a huge lake. I don't know if you can hang out by it, but there were people fishing too. Very peaceful there. At least give them a call and find out.

There are a bunch in NJ. I believe there is a big one in Holmdel but I haven't been there in years...

South Jersey, Harrison Township. Lake Garrison, Not too big and has a nice quiet community around it on season.

Any lake or rec area will probably have more visitors during the Memorial Day weekend so don't give isolation too high of a priority. ;)

Bear Mountain's lake is nice... it tends to be fairly full of people on weekends... finding one without many people there is going to be very hard. There's a very nice place near/in Morristown, NJ I recall... my church goes there once every summer together. Because you can reserve an entire area to yourself, it's limited in the number of people. There's a lake there too with boats and stuff for people to have some fun at.

There's some lovely lakefront property in the Love Canal area of NY. You also have the bonus of knowing you'd be the only people there to enjoy the beauty of the area.

Was there a few years ago. It's your typical all-american tourist attraction, not a place you'd consider a quiet place to barbecue around.
