I went to bed at 5:00AM, and finally fell asleep at 6:00. Woke up at 3:00PM. I really need to break this sleep cycle before vacation ends. The traditional ones are Unisom and Tylenol PM(Simply sleep?), but I'm wondering if anyone has used a less-well known brand that has worked well for them. I've tried herbal stuff and warm milk and all that, no good. I need something to knock me out, otherwise I just lie in bed until I pass out hours later. Any reccomendations?

Try blue meanies yet? Seriously. Go get yourself some tylenol PM (blue pill/blue bottle) take the recommended 2 and you won't wake up until the morning. However, a) they are literally addicting to some and b) you will feel a bit groggy or drugged when you wake up. They work every time for me though.

My pharmacist recommended benadryl, its much cheaper that OTC sleep meds and has the same effect.

I tried benadryl for a while myself, and it ends up making me miserable during the day. I don't mind some groggyness for an hour or two after I wake up, but the benadryl stayed with me way too long. Yes, I took it at a normal time, 10PM.

I'll check out the 'blue meanies'.

yea benedryl is good. or ambien, which is dedicated for sleeping. how long has this been going on?

also, no tv or exercising before bed. some say a glass of hot milk works. i prefer to clear my mind with some easy music and meditation.

edit: my bad, ambien is by prescription only. try the benedryl but remember to keep hydrated cause it may dry you out.

As long as I can remember, but it's gotten a lot worse the past year or so.

i'd suggest you see your doc.

do you exercise regularly or semi-regularly? how's your diet? any overly-stressful or traumatic experiences during this period of time?

I have been using Melatonin for the last three or four weeks and it has been a godsend. I have had trouble sleeping for as long as I can remember, and finally I have found something that helps:D I do take four at bedtime instead of the recommended one however. I am not too hip on taking medicines like Tylenol PM, Benadryl, etc. on a daily basis for long periods of time, which is why I gave the Melatonin a shot.

EDIT: As I sure you know already. Melatonin is something our bodies produce naturally.

shotgun to face. you might not wake up too easily the next morning though. so only try it when you don't have work/school the next morning.

If the only reason you can't sleep is cause your schedule is messed up (its not like you're not getting enough), just tough it out one day and get up early in the morning, do whatever you do during the day, and by like 8pm that night you will probably be ready to crash early so you can get up early the next morning.. usually only takes once.
