Seems a little vague.. why is DHCP not the way to go?

Reservations might be a way to go.

Another idea would be to set the DHCP range from say 1 to 50, and then set static IPs on your fixed machines from 51 on up. That's what I do at home so that any of my friends coming over can still get an IP address without having to mess with setting one.

its a lot easier to use DHCP with really high lease times...you wont be running out of private addresses anytime soon.

Check if your Router support IP reservation within the DHCP (AKA Static DHCP).

If it does, use it and benefit from both DHCP, and static IP.

okay, this is what i did:

went to network connections, and then manually entered in our info. i basically just entered the same thing for each computer, except for the IP address i kept on going up 1 from .102. We only have one DNS server i guess.

I don't change any of the other info from computer to computer? Also, should i do anything in my router? Also, will a range expander affect any of this? It shouldn't as long as we don't use the range expanders IP, right?

All linksys router I've seen with stock firmware don't do DHCP reservations. Why I don't know, it's not like it's something super secret. Other vendors (dlink, zyxel) have it built into the the interface. I know DDWRT has it as well.
