Ok,

here's the deal...I've been having this nagging problem w/ my computer. This is a long post...but...well...I need the help and I want to make sure I cover all the bases up front....so we're not running around in circles.

I keep getting this error message.

A Fatal Exception OE has occurred at 0028:c0006eb2 in VXD VMM(01) + 00005eb2. The Current application will be terminated.

Thats a "Blue screen" error....that happens to me sometimes when I try to open half-life.

Once it happens, I hit "any key" and it goes back to windows...if I try to re-enter half-life it will say "half-life requires directx 6 or better. Please install and play"

here's my system specs.
(the ones that matter anyways)

150gb hard drive
192mb ram
Windows 98SE
Directx 8
Latest NVIDIA Reference drivers for Geforce 2 64mb GTS. 6.31 I believe.
488mb swap file

Dont think any other info will help out much.

Here's what I've tried

1. Re-installing half-life.
2. Re-installing windows
3. COMPLETE FORMAT OF HDD
4. Directx 7 (rather than 8)
5. EVERY SINGLE Version of the Nvidia drivers...including all the way up to 7.17 (beta)
6. MANY MANY MANY different swap file sizes.
So, if ANYONE can help me out..I'd more than appreciate it.

I cant seem to find this error on the MICROSOFT website...so if anyone else is much better at navigating through there than me...could you let me know

I"ve asked several people who I usually go to for stuff like this and they're stumped.

It only does this when I open half-life. But beings that I spend at least 5 hours on the computer a day because of this great game...I have to have my pc working.

As irony would have it...it seems to happen most when I try to get in for a clan match...but then I also have mIRC open and Roger Wilco, etc...but even today...its doing it all the time...I cant play hl anymore...

So, Please help :)

At first it sounds like a corruption of DX or video/sound drivers, but since you've reinstalled both, chances are it's a conflict between some hardware, or possibly bad memory or bad sectors on your HD.

Also, if you're overclocking, that could be the problem. Make sure your CPU temp isn't too high.

BTW, what type of HD is that? 150 gb?

Did you install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers for your motherboard chipset that came with your mobo? Are you running an SBlive? If so, you'll need the absolute latest drivers with the PIII. Earlier versions that ship with the cards don't get along with the Coppermines.

Not overclocking...

My 800@803 is a joke...it was like that out of the box :p

The hard drive is actually a combo of 5 drives

C Drive - 13.6 Quantam Drive
D Drive - 20 GB Western Digital
E Drive - 30 GB Maxtor
F Drive - 30 GB Maxtor
G Drive - 60 GB Maxtor

Now that you mention it tho...that makes sense...I had a ----------lot-------- of problems w/ that 30gb maxtor (drive e) when it was my C drive....and now...half-life runs off that e drive...but the drivers and all that are still on the c drive (naturally). So, maybe I'll re-install half-life on the other 30gb maxtor (beings its ata100...get better performance) Hmm...I guess I'll try that

Any other ideas?

Also, I did have my pc tell me that maxtor drive had bad sectors at one time...Guess I havent been connecting the two...I probably should have...ahh well..

If it had bad sectors that early, it's probably defective and getting more as we speak. Move the game to a new drive, and scandisk that old drive using the thorough option to detect bad sectors.

fir3wir3, bingo! I believe you find it is either that or the AGP miniport driver (included in the VIA 4in1's) :)

Sure, I hadn't thought of that, but that's because you loaded the video driver before the 4 in 1's change your display driver to standard vga, then reboot. Try your driver disk again. Get those installed, then reinstall your video driver.

A Fatal Exception OE has occurred at 0028:c0006eb2 in VXD VMM(01) + 00005eb2. The Current application will be terminated is due to corruption of DX or video/sound drivers, conflict between some hardware, or possibly bad memory or bad sectors on ur HD????? What i mean is whenever either one happen, there is such kind of error message appear??

Actually what have fir3wir3 done to fix his problem??? install the VIA 4 in driver and the video driver is it?

mouse, the problem is that for proper operation of the Video card drivers, the AGP mini port driver, which comes in the 4in1 drivers needs to be installed. This is an inherent situation with VIA based boards.

correct me if I'm wrong...but loading the Via 4 in 1 drivers is redundant with Win 98SE as they are included with it and as I was told the SE drivers are better....but you need to still install the AGP mini port drivers...just my .02...
