I've been getting spyware after every fresh install of windows, and I finally found the culprit! It was my codecs packs! Can anyone lead me to a place where I can get safe codecs? I already have DivX covered. Audio and video plz!

I switch between codecs a lot. A recent build of ffdshow will cover just about everything, but sometimes I get Divx and AC3Filter from their official sites. I think that's what I'm using right now. If you want a package, I would get with Matroska. It covers just about everything, including OGM and subtitles.

I would like as little clutter as possible, as more codecs= bad IMO. I always try to keep the amount of codecs I have down, as I only need them for transcoding to Mpeg-2 for DVD.

I get my codecs here: free-codecs.com.

Never had a problem with anything I downloaded there but I'm not sure if they have what you are looking for.

Get rid of everything else, then install ffdshow. If that still doesn't have everything, I recommend the DefilerPak: a minimalist collection that includes ffdshow as well as some sort of subtitle, ogm, and AC-3 stuff. I could probably get by with just ffdshow but I just go with DefilerPak to be sure.

I play all my videos in linux, as VLC/Totem with a decent set of codecs has handeled everything I have thrown at it. Gspot + winamp/WMP/PowerDVD can't play several things I have aquired over the years correctly (garbled/no audio, messed up, out of sync video)

Combined Community Codec Pack. one of the best packs ive ever used. matroska pack is also great too, but its kinda old last time i used it/they never updated fast enough.

2nded. Nice bundle - be aware that there are other sites that try to sell or bundle the same codec pack with stuff though...this site seems OK though.
