I tried doing it my self.
4 day old install of win2k
Download & Install newest detenator drivers (not betas, but ones on site)
Download & Install DirectX 8
Install UT cd
Patch to 4.36 (before even running the game)
Add "Bonus Pack"
Run...
Lock. Hard lock, have to reboot. Sometimes I get a few seconds into the intro, but usualy its just a black screen with looping music.

So then I downloaded the opengl .dll, and changed the .ini settings. Ran "change video device" and selected Opengl. Same thing, hard lock.

(btw: its not the stability of the overclock, i've had it this way for over a year and ran UT on win98 fine).

So I uninstalled UT, and now I'm trying to find a walkthrough, but haven't had any luck so far, so I'm asking.

I would use the Det2 drivers on your TNT2 Ultra card. DET3 drivers cause slower performance. Also, download DirectX 8 and use D3D, not OpenGL. I have a TNT2 Ultra card also and OpenGL does not work (even with the latest Patch to UT).

I too run UT on Windows 2000 Pro with SP1.

sorry, forgot to mention I also was using DirectX 8.

plus: my understanding with the Det3 drivers was that the first release actually hurt the TNT's, but that later realeases brought back an improvement.

I had installed DET3 drivers after there subsequent releases, but also found no significant improvements. I still use DET2.

I am waiting for NVidia to release their new graphics chip by Spring of next year to upgrade, otherwise I would have a GForce2 DDR 64MB video card. I know that one kicks major a$$!
 
where can i get the det2 drivers?

even so, thats a performance issue, not a 'get the damn thing running' issue.

I just tried re-installing, so now we're looking at

Newest UT Patch

I didn't bother with the bonus pack. I run it, set it up in D3D, hit Esc before the flyby can start. Get into the starting page, and pull down the menu's to start changing my settings. I change it to 800x600, everthing's ok. I change invert mouse, everythings ok. I change my left strafe key, bam, hard lock.

Does no one else have a BX board witn a TNT2 running UT on win2k?

I have the same problem also when I try to run UT in opengl but in D3D the game runs fine. Im using a Gforce ddr, DET 3 631 drivers DX8 and SP1 and the 436 patch.

I am running UT with win 2k, a geforce 2 gts 32 mb ddr, with the hacked opengl driver that allows the use of the S3 textures on Disk 2. I must say, it looks awesome. I too am using Det 3 drivers and the latest patch for UT. I highly reccomend you do everything possible to get yours working.....It rocks
