Can anyone offer advice on a good vid editing Software for the AIW

Hello

I have a radeon AIW, and I'm really not very satisfied with the video editing software that came with it. I'm trying to get into making custom presentations for school and such, but I really can't seem to find any good software(that's somewhat easy to use), that will support the Radeon's video captures. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You are out of luck with the Radeon, since ATI has no balls and fears Microsoft they only included DirectShow support. So in other words even though you have an apparently state of the art capture card, you can't use ANY third party capturing software out there except those that support DirectShow. The only software that I know of that supports directshow is Ulead studio (junk) which is included with the Radeon and I think Adobe premiere 6 but people have been having lots of problems using that combo. Even Microsoft's Windows Media Encoder 7 doesn't support it's own DirecShow implementation. If you think that's bad.

I have CuSeeme, VDOPhone and Netmeeting 3.1 which are the most popular software that the online community uses for video collaboration, but in order to use it even though I have a $385Cdn capture card, I have to use an old piece of junk that I pulled out of my junk hardware bin that I purchased 4 years ago called the Connectix Quikclip, it works flawlessly. Imagine that, a $50 capture card that I purchased 4 years ago that's worth nothing today works better than the $385Cdn AIW-Radeon.

The AIW-128 supported VfW and it even says so on the box, ATI has also pulled every mention of VfW support from their website. You seriously have to question the brain dead bankrupcy approach for ATI to only support directshow for their *cough* state of the art capture card when in fact no collaboration software or third party capture software on the market today supports it.

Welcome to the All-In-Blunder Radeon.

GRRR!!!!! Talk about frustrating! Thanks for the info nic. Please let me know if you happen to run across ANYHTING else that happens to support directshow.

You mean to tell me ATI doesn't have WDM drivers for the Radeon? I have an All-in-Wonder Pro 128 and use VirtualDub for most of my video capture & editing. One of finest examples of open-source free programs on the planet, definitely give it a try if you haven't already.

Best regards,
Floyd

I can't even use virtualdub unless I already have the avi file. You can't capture direct because there is NO WDM driver. only directshow and of course VirtualDub doens't support directshow actually hardly anything supports directshow.

If ATI would have made an AIW-128 pro but with the Radeon chip and with the same support as the 128 that would have been Utopia, that was too much for ATI to make a perfect card so they screwed it up royally, actually that's what I tought I was getting but it isn't but wait I did get screwed. ATI has truly dug themselves a hole with this one. I smell Riot, lawsuit and bankrupcy

Of course I use Virtualdub or would like to anyway, but VD (which is the best) is seriously having an impact on M$ Windows Media Encoder, and Microsoft's future plans, and M$ doesn't like that, by creating software like DirectShow, capture cards like ATI can refuse to work with third party capture software or open source programs like virtualdub.

Eventually Capture cards that have DirectShow support only would be able to dictate which capture software would work with their cards and what medium you CAN and can't capture with the card, so if ATI would be in collusion with M$ and Ulead, they would be able to have their cards only work with Windows Media Encoder, or Ulead Studio, and eventually the software would be able to detect and decide if you can or cannot capture the specified feed, such as VCD's DVD's or VCR tapes ect.. if ATI wouldn't want the card to work with VirtualDub even though VD would have DirectShow it wouldn't work, if the DVD would be copyright material you would not be able to capture it or convert it and so on.

This is what I believe M$ and ATI are trying to implement, it's full of bugs and doesn't work properly but we are the initial ginny pigs, that's why there are so many problems with this card. It's a clear attempt by M$ to control the open source and third party capture software market and to implement their own domination and to control what we can and cannot capture. It's about time someone opens the can of worms and tells the truth about this mess. Talk about Anti-Trust, M$ trumpets the "Freedom to Innovate" but trying to block what software I want to use and what I can and cannot capture is not Freedom.

Ok I went a little deep but If I would have known this, the card would have stayed on the shelf.

Remember the AIW-128 had VfW WDM drivers and support.
If none of this is true, then allow the open source software and release VfW WDM drivers damm it.
