Can anyone identify this bug?

I had 25% of a big tree in my front yard just fall of the rest of the tree. This crazy looking bug on the tree. I snapped a pic of it, and one of my buddies who works outside said he never saw a crazy looking bug like this before.

That crazy looking line you see on the left was some sort appendage that was attached to the bugs rear. Any ideas?[

That is an Ichneumon Wasp. That long stinger (really an ovipositor) is used to penetrate old wood to lays eggs on the grubs eating the wood.

Does it still sting with that thing though?

damn wood wasps.....

take that tree and burn it fast before more of those suckers hatch..

they are a pain to get rid of.
