people don't normally do crazy things when hypnotized. It's more like entering the human terminal mode(imagine going to start->run : telnet Jane Doe). You can't make people do things they wouldn't normally do, but you can plant suggestions to think about or give them forced choices. Consequences of actions don't come into effect, but decision making ability does.
On the topic, I don't think it's really possible. It took years for POWs to be brainwashed, to think that you could achieve an easily influenced state with mere words and shiny objects seems off to me.
Then again, I could be wrong
