Everytime I go to a site that either cant be found or it just doesnt make the proper connection my browser will automatically take me to this LOP.COM website!. I really wouldnt mind if it allowed me to just hit my BACK button to go back to where I was working but it loops into this link:

http://www.lop.com/dnserror.cgi?

and I always loose whatever I was working on prior to that like a post or written forum message, ect. It only started happing recently. I think one of these infamous pop-up adds change something in my system's settings to goto this damned link everytime I have a DNS error and it will loop not allowing me to go BACK!

How in the world to I get this out back to the default error page??

I am using Internet Explorer 6.0 and Windows XP
Can anyone help me with this mess?...thanks!

Hmm...sounds odd! Seems like some rogue program or something equally malevolent has modified your default 'Page Not Found' URL.

Fire up regedit and drill down to: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs

The following values I have are...

blank = res://mshtml.dll/blank.htm
DesktopItemNavigationFailure = res://shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm
NavigationCanceled = res://shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm
NavigationFailure = res://shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm
OfflineInformation = res://shdoclc.dll/offcancl.htm
PostNotCached = res://mshtml.dll/repost.htm

I should imagine one (if not more) of them have been set to www.lop.com. Edit the strings as appropriate, exit regedit and reboot. That should do the trick :) Lop.com looks like a bit of a dubious portal to me anyway, maybe you should be careful what you do online... :)

Oops, I forgot you have WinXP. That is the registry key you need to go to for IE6 in Win98SE. I should imagine it won't be a hugely different path in XP, but I can't find out where it is. Let me know how it goes :-D

Thanks for all your help...nothing you suggested worked....these stupid MF'ers edited my Win System files.......I finally figured out how to unistall it with thier own unique uninstall program that is actually listed on their FAQ website

Check out the nerve of these pieces of shiit.....Can I sue them for down time and lost productivity over the last 3 months!!??

Their practices are sneaky and deceptive!!

Ah, glad you've got that sorted. Unfortunately this is just one of a handful of a site I've heard of that employ such dubious practices (portals being a popular culprit)...ah well :( Maybe one day I'll have the power to do something to them...bwa ha ha! *evil laugh*

Ad Aware isn't designed to stop pop ups. It's made to help you root out spyware from your system (i.e. of the ilk that you had). It scans the registry, executables, cookies etc. and reports back any spyware stuff. Quite handy if you're paranoid about your privacy, or just resent those damn nosey gits finding out everything about what you do on your computer!

[edit]oh yeah, and here's the link for Ad Aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/downloads.html[/edit]

According to that link you gave it was installed by another piece of software, not Lop themselves.

i HATE Lop.com - they did the same thing to me. They have some agreement w/ certain websites & if u just visit them - POW, Lop is installed on your computer & it does that thing where it trys to load their page anytime your browser can't reach the page you wanted (even if u just click Stop!)

Ad-Aware does a good job of removing it
