Can anyone help me become a medical transcriptionist?

Of course, I know Google is my friend so don't even start with that. The problem is sorting through all the crap on there.

I already have some limited background with medical terminology but no professional transcription experience. I can and have typed up e-mails and letters for people as they dictate to me so I know I'm at least capable of doing the job. I already know this isn't a career that pays great in the long term and I'm really looking to do this for a few years potentially during school.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get started? Which programs are any good? How much money should I set aside to start this?

I think you have to be certified somehow to be a medical transcriptionist. Not so much for the typing part though, but about the terminology and the regulations (privacy, etc).
