2. Which must be loaded first into the computer's memory, OS or software application? WHy?

3. What does it mean when software is called IBM compatable or Macintosh compitable?? What does this have to do with the operating system?

4. Why is the user interface such an important part of software?

5. What are the three plarforms for desktop computers today? Briefly describe them.

6. Describe three different ways a spellings checker might be fooled.

7. In what ways are word precessors and spreadsheets programs similar?

8. What are some advantages ofusing a spreadsheet over using a calculator to maintain a budget? Are there distadvantages?

9. Describe several software tools used for numeric applications too complex to handle by spreadsheet. Give an example of an application of each.

Items #1-5 you should be able to figure out as needed.

After all, you are using a computer.

1. Most computer software falls into one of three categories: compliers and other translator programs, software applications, and system software. Describe and give example of each.

Compilers are software that do not fall into application and system software categories. Example: Compilers.
Software applications are applications that are made as software. Example: Application software
System software is anything other than the two categories mentioned. Example: Software that is part of a system.

2. Which must be loaded first into the computer's memory, OS or software application? WHy?

This is a trick question. The first thing to load is computer memory. Otherwise, we won't have any place to load either the OS nor software application.

3. What does it mean when software is called IBM compatable or Macintosh compitable?? What does this have to do with the operating system?

The software is compatible with one but not necessarily the other. For example, IBM compatible software is compatible with IBM, but not necessarily compatible with Macintosh. It has nothing to do with the operating system, as IBM and Macintosh are fancy names for hardwares.

4. Why is the user interface such an important part of software?

Because need to have a way to tell the user "This software has generated an error and need to be terminated. If all else fails, contact our customer suppor team".

5. What are the three plarforms for desktop computers today? Briefly describe them.

Heater fan on the side of the computer, to heat up the leg.
Cup holder for the caffeine cup.
Blinking lights for navigation in the dark.

6. Describe three different ways a spellings checker might be fooled.

See question 1, 3, 5. The pertinent parts are underlined.

7. In what ways are word precessors and spreadsheets programs similar?

They cost money to buy, unless you can find the free open source alternatives. Most of the time, they also generate problems between the chair and the keyboard.

8. What are some advantages ofusing a spreadsheet over using a calculator to maintain a budget? Are there distadvantages?

Most credit card signups give freebies that may include calculator. Cellphones come with calculator. Most operating system has calculator programs. Why spend money to buy spreadsheet if you'll only use it to do simple algebra?

9. Describe several software tools used for numeric applications too complex to handle by spreadsheet. Give an example of an application of each.

Can a spreadsheet generate prime numbers between 2 and 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,001? Yup, i don't think so. That's why we have teh interweb and search engines.

10. List several advantages and disadvantages of using computer simulations for decision-making.

Advantage: Looks cooler and "geek"-er than the magic 8-ball. Girls love guys who know computers.
Disadvantage: magic 8 ball is way cheaper than a computer

Doing someone's work for them doesn't help them in the long run. If he had put any effort into it at all I wouldn't have minded helping out.

As pointed out earlier in the thread, I didn't read them. Posting stupid answers doesn't do anyone any good either.

Are you stupid? Those were great for a laugh. It does everyone some good to ridicule stupid people who exploit the kindness of strangers.

I don't see where you "pointed out" that you didn't read them. I'm beginning to think someone else needs help here.
