i want to grab a few old SMC ISA 10base-t nics (specifically EtherCard Elite Ultra 16 ISA info here ), but under drivers at the SMC site, there are no win9x or w2k drivers, these would still most likely run under 98 or w2k? any info would be appreciated.

You could look under Control Panel->Add/Remove Hardware and see if the driver is included in the OS' default drivers list by manually selecting the "Network Adapter" category.

I'd say, though, that if the driver isn't listed there, you're probably SOL re: those NICs.

Update-
In W2K's list, I see these:
SMC EtherCard Elite 16 Ultra (8216, 8216C, 8216T)
SMC EtherEZ (8416 in Legacy mode)
SMC TigerCard (8216L, 8216LC, 8216LT)

I used this card in the past. I think that Win98 can install one of the available default drivers for this Card, otherwise use the Win95 Driver, it probably will work.

TallGeese - i did what you did before i posted the ? and saw the same thing under available devices for SMC (in w2k). this particular nic is model 8013 which is different than the elite cards w/ native os support. i would bet they work fine, but who knows.

ps. just looked under 98se and it is there.

I have used a plethora of SMC Elite16 cards, and have used the default, built in win9x drivers exclusively with zero problems.

use 'em 🙂
