I have computers here that I want to set up for BOINC. But I need to be able to do it from a single computer. I would like to be able to install BOINC on a machine, and then have some way of simply transferring the projects im working on, to the other machines (Not the WU, just the project info). I would love to contribute as much as possible, but I simply have too many machines to get this done any time soon. It needs to be able to be completely controlled by another machine over a Network. I know its possible with programs like Boincview, but I cant get it to see any computers. I'm just so confused on how to get it working. Would anyone please provide some assistance?

I'm sure we can help you. We've got some crunchers in here who do exactly what you are looking for, so give them a bit of time and they'll explain how to work with BOINC view or BAM.

Amdxborg, this is one for you I guess!

Hi there, OK first you'll need a Boinc network install package to deploy Boinc from one computer to all the others. I have never done this myself, I installed Boinc on over a hundred computers one by one. But you'll find a very detailed guide on how to do it here: http://www.thelazyslug.com/boinc.htm

Then I also use Boincview to manage my clients, the boincview install guide is here: http://boincview.amanheis.de/?page=installation All you have to do is open boincview, click add a new location, type a name for one of the clients, select via network access (using gui rpc), type in the hostname or ip address of the client, type in the boinc client password and select the update interval, click apply.

But, for this to work, a file called remote_hosts.cfg has to be placed in the boinc folder on every pc. This can propably be done when doing the boinc network deploy and added to the package. The remote_hosts.cfg file has to contain the hostname or ip address of the pc on which boincview will be running. The boinc password you have to type into boincview for each pc is the gui_rpc_auth.cfg (opens with notepad) file in the boinc folder. Each pc has it's own password, but with the network install package, I recon a file containing the same password can be deployed to all the pcs.

This will be a long process if you have many pcs. But it is worth it! :D So plz keep asking if something is still not clear!

I use VNC to access the machines, but than they are in a dedicatred crack-rack.

Johan, how does BoincView work? Sound interesting. At the moment, I just have the 10 or so machines running the clients - ghosted most of the machines anyway - and then check the status ever now and then via VNC to make sure all is a-ok.

Hey Perry!

BoincView works like a charm, it gives you an interface to manage all ur clients with all the options the default boinc program has and more! Just download it and follow my instructions.. you'll love it! Let me know if there's something you can't get working.

Well thx to the kind responses of the people here and especially amdxborg, I'm getting somewhere, the only problem is I set up an account manager to smooth things over at BOINCstats, but I cant seem to attatch it in BOINCview because it insiste on add "http://" even though there is non in the account manager address. Anyway to resolve this?
