Can anyone find the story that this excerpt is from?

It reminds me of a book that I'd read a little while ago, but can't recall the name of. I'd be much obliged if anyone could help me out. The quote goes like this:

"It's a high-flying mystery with a dashing hero. His name is probably something like Rex or Luther. Shiftily attractive, a name that ensures a good time. It's one of four books in this place. I have a few from the 87th, a bible missing a back cover, and the essential top hat to any book collection, Audubon's Birds of the World. I'd have to say that I've read them all at least a dozen times; except for the bible. I haven't touched that. I wouldn't touch it, not for all of the birds in the world. I'd never once in my life touched one of things. Came awfully close a few times, reaching into hotel drawers for a phonebook. "

Thanks much, ATOT!
