Can anyone explain to me how to get the IBM Drive Fitness Test to run?

Im running XP and I have followed their directions but no go it wont load

I only know of one way to run DFT. Assume you have it downloaded.

1. Run the file DFT32-V300.EXE. That should create a bootable floppy diskette.
2. Boot with the diskette and it loads and runs automatically - you get a DOS-based screen with mouse support.

That's the way I do it (running XP Pro.)

If that won't work, make sure your first boot device in BIOS is floppy.

tried both no luck. when i boot up it says "Non-system disk or disk error" press any key. any ideas?

I'd say you've got a bad download, bad floppy disk or both. I'm running it on an XP machine next to me as I type.

you were right bad floppy disk.

ok I ran it and right away it found multiple bad sectors and drive made that beautiful scraping noise.

error code: 0x70= Defective device
TRC: 70002983

hehe got an RMA number hopefully they replace it with something better
