Can anyone confirm the kick assness of Sony LCDs.

I've seen Sony LCDs at Best Buy and I was just amazed by the quality of the picture, especially compared to other LCDs.

Can anyone confirm this?

I hate that. WTF is the point of doing that. I knew they were slacking off in their electronic business ever since 80 percent of their profit comes from PS2.

Samsung is into everything you can imagine. From Microwaves to semiconductors to back-hoes (not women who lay on their backs for money either).

Sony LCD are alright. Their response time isn't as fast as Samsung, LG, or Dell. It all depends on how much money you want to spend on it and the use of it. And don't forget that you are paying for Sony's styling fee for the lcd more than any other lcd.

<3 Sony LCD's.

I work at Staples, and we just got in one of their 17" ones. My god.

17" Sony LCD with XBrite

That's a link to one of their LCD's with XBrite. Maybe someone can confirm this,
but from what I know they use essentially HDTV technology - and it makes a world of difference.
So much crisper and cleaner and *brighter* than a normal LCD monitor. Only problem
is that the surface of the monitor is extremely reflective, almost like a mirror. So meh. 🙂

You sure it isn't that Sony logo that is playing you for a fool?

What is "HDTV technology"?

The image is brighter because they use two backlights, whereas other lcds use one. Unfortunately, this prevents it from being able to display true black. It also has a glass surface which creates too much glare IMO.

Dell does not manufacture LCDs like Samsung and LG. Dell buys their panels from Lite-On and Samsung. Dell purchases panels ranging from 16ms to 35ms.

Actually I was referring to 2001FP, it is from LG, but LG doesn't carry the same model here in States. overall, all the latest Dell LCD's (17"+) quality are excellent for the price and performance.

LG's LM201U04.

Viewsonic also has an lcd with that panel, the vp201.

So what's the point of buying them from resellers? Why not buy from the actual companies who make them?

Well all this talk about 12ms response time. My dad got Sony SDM-HS73 with a 20ms panel (Hynix? not sure) and there is barely any ghosting at gaming. I am very happy with the monitor, but I wouldn't say that Sony's are the best. At the time the NEC 1765 (with the glass panel protecting the actual LCD) looked awesome in my eyes, and also did have 16ms response time, and seemed brighter than the sony model. I dont think sony's lcds are that bad, maybe slightly overpriced just like all sony products though.

Actually Anand noted long time ago that some 20 and 25ms response time panels exhibited less ghosting than some 16ms panels, so you cant simply go by the specifications of the manufacturer. The best thing to do when buying a monitor of any kind, is to see it in person.

I've seen many a Sony LCDs and don't think they're really that great. I've found many other LCDs to be brighter and sharper than the Sony's. I think it's just the brand name, which really doesn't mean that much to me anymore.

Monitors, unlike other computer equipments, need to be looked at and felt by urself. When I walked in the store, and compared the SONY SDM-HS73 with others, some of which had much higher ratings, it looked much better both in terms of images and appearances. I know there are quite a great number of anti-sony LCDs opinions flowing around the web, but remember u have to see it to believe it.

yeah, that magical Sony effect where if you take a Samsung panel and slap the Sony name on it, it instantly becomes so much better.

Samsung panel is one of the top-rated in LCD market. So putting a Sony name does not make it become "so much better". Plus, Sony LCDs have their unique design, so putting a Sony logo onto an ugly model does not grab much attentions.

the sony X-Black or the Onyx black screens on their laptops are simply uber, dunno bout response time tho, the picture quality is first rate.....tho bang an olufsen are even more expensive but give u al top specs
