The wife and I are trying to start to eat a little more healthy, which (obviously) means more vegetables.

We need a vegetable steamer -- anybody got a good one you can recommend? Thanks!

Black & Decker flavor scenter steamer, I've had 3 now, bought a Zojurushi to see if it was any better, it wasn't, just sold it on eBay.

Option B is to buy a rice cooker (the traditional style Text) & use it for veggies, I have both, because I like both with the same meal.

That's nice stuff Mr.moose.

On the cheap:eek:I use one of the stainless steel basket deals that opens like a flower, so it will fit in any size of sauce pan. Just add a little water, but it must be monitored.

I gave the model recommended by Pliablemoose as a gift and my friend really likes it.

I got a Zojirushi on sale at Amazon. It doesn't look any different from Pliablemoose's, really. Mine has 2 stackable steamer baskets so you can steam 2 things at once. It was like $20.

Gosh, just about anything we can. We currently have a large influx of broccoli, cauliflower, beans, and carrots. I think that's a good start.

Put the brussels sprouts in the closed-bottom bowl with some minced garlic, black pepper, crushed red pepper and a little sea salt and a little bit of water.

Yum.

When you steam veggies do you lose ANY nutrional value you would otherwise get from eating them raw?

I dunno.
But I think the point is to replace what we currently eat -- foods with lots of fat -- with something better (foods w/o lots of fat; e.g. vegetables).

yes you always lose some but as long as you don't oversteam to which the veggies lose color dramatically, you should be ok.
