Can anybody recommend a good Cell phone

Any suggestions? I am moving soon to start a new job, and one of the things I'd like to get once I move in is a mobile phone (don't have one at the moment). I am partially deaf; this doesn't stop me from using normal phones, but I do have a hard time with some of the cheap "free w/ plan" cells that a lot of people use. I don't know if getting a different phone would help, or if it's just the way cells work, but I think it would be worth a shot.

Well, I have had a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE relationship with motorola phones.
I had the motorola A630, it was a piece of crap!
I had the motorola RAZR, another piece of crap!
Motorola SLVR, another piece!

After all these motorola phones, I bought the Sony S710A. I usually dont like sony product because i think they are overpriced, but this phone simply rocked my world. Great reception, never dropped calls, crystal clear sound, it was awesome!

I now have a Tmobile MDA, and besides a few weird things about it, I have liked it so far. Battery lasts a while if you turn off the WIFI
