Hi, a few years ago I got a new TV. My dad was installing some electrical components in a school and they had 2 extra TV's left. They gave him one, which is what I am using now. I searched the internet, but I can't find much info on it. Anybody care to help? Here is what I know:

It is a Zenith
It is part of their "presentation series"
It is 36"
It has a curved screen and is insanely heavy
It cost $2200 originally
It was made in 2000 I think
It has a VGA input on the front
It has a lot of inputs on the back for Svideo, component, etc.

Does anybody know what this is? Most reviews say the XBOX360 needs an HDTV to look really good. Will ine work well with the XBOX360? I think I remember it being SVGA quality which is 800:600 60fps I think. Would that be 720P or what? How should I set it up for the 360? Any help is appreciated.

itll play xbox 360 yeah,..will it look as its intended,...not a chance bulbed screens have impure aspects and wide lines of resolution scanning,...in other words,...a 24" sony wega flatscreen square tv would own your tv in every way regardless of what you paid for it over half a decade ago in the visual department......you paid for size at the time,...a tv can be more expensive and have worse image quality,..because most the time you are paying for size not quality or technology

p stands for progressive scan ,.you may have heard of it on dvd players,...well most people never actually see progressive scan on thier movies even though thier dvd player says it,..why?,..because thier tv does not support it,..so you are seeing nothing better or different than a non progressive scan dvd player can do,...on high definition is defined by 2 perimeters,...interlaced,..and progressive scan,..interlaced can be upscaled,...such as taking non hd content(such as standard cable tv),..and your hd tv decoding it into an hd frequency(lower quality) progressive must be programmed HD(higher quality) so if your source(being xbox360) is set and output with the proper decoder and cable,...its can render pure high definition signals,(480p,720p cleanest form of high definition)...which niether of these your television over a half a decade old can decode im sorry to say,...if youhave component video however you can have good image quality ,..you will have seperated color palettes,...making the color stay completly in the lines of the image and have good tone(providing your tv's capabilities),...if you are wondering what tv's would give you the best experience(you do have to set you xbox360 output for your tv's technology on anything otehr than standard res 4:3 aspect,so if you replace your tv,... know its specs to set in the xbox and use the HD cables only for video!)

heres my exact HDTV

SONY 34" Trinitron WEGA HD Widescreen

does 480i,1080i,480p,720p SRS tru surround and has a 2.1 speaker system built in( yes it has a subwoofer :D)

great tv,..and i never once had a regret,if you hook up an xbox360 and output pure hd 720p all the time on the hdmi or component video cables,....you will crap your pants i promise you,..heheh(even god of war on ps2 in 480p makes my jaw drop on it)

now if only 360 had HDMI out...

if you want to know more about 360s and displays, head over to www.avsforum.com. they have several threads about 360 displays going.

I heard that the XBOX360 automatically sets itself, but others say there is a switch you have to hit. Would I just set mine to 720P and have it downscaled a bit. Or is mine worse than 480P even.

# Item 47.81 36" Zenith #H3646DT, Dual Scan Monitor/TV Receiver/Data Monitor, data @ 800x600 resolution @60Hz (VESA standard works only at 60 Hz), 560 lines of TV resolution, S video loop in/out $ 1,510.00 Contact HJB for system compatibility and feature information.

# Item 47.82 36" Zenith #H3647DT, Dual Scan Monitor/TV Receiver/Data Monitor, data (800x600 resolution @60Hz) (1600x1200 @100Hz) Special adapter may be needed for some MAC models, 560 lines of TV resolution, S video loop in/out $ 1746.00 Contact HJB for system compatibility and feature information.

is it either one of those models?

your right about the 800x600 resolution. its not 720p(1280x720) but its better than standard tv. it looks as tho the second one supports higher res (1600x1200) but scales it down. it wont hurt to get the vga cable for the 360.

i suggest trying 720p and if that doesnt work use 480p.

either of those are better than s-video or composite.

Both of them could be it I guess. Do you have a picture? Mine is all black and pretty huge. If it does support 1600x1200 60hz, that is very impressive. The TV is about 5 years old, although it was $2200 when it came out.

i couldnt find pics.

it supports 1600x1200, but that just means it will take that signal in and scale it down. its still only got 560 lines of resolution.

So, it isn't worth it to get the VGA cable. My TV is 560P I guess. Should I just the 360 to 720P and let it downscale to 560P on the component cables.

i think you will have better luck with the vga cables. the tv may not even support progressive scan, but it accepts pc signals and displays them. the worst case would be you have to choose 480p.

I think the 360 comes with Component cables standard. Would a VGA cable give me a much better picture? I don't want to spend too much.

I just looked at the TV, and it isn't real component I think. It looks like it is just baseband component Y/W/R. This isn't what the 360 uses, right? It does have Svideo and VGA though.

Jonnyblaze, you are good. My TV's exact model is the second one you listed:
#H3647DT

Judging by what you said, VGA will look much better than the standard Y/R/W.
