well i was poking around the MS website, at the same time thinking of how i could fill some extra time in days adn i came across the certification pages. I was wondering if anybody has done any of them and coudl give me some info. I'm a full time university student right now so my time to spend on this woudl be limited. Also i'm ok with computer but no genius, and would like to learn a lot more about them. Is this a good idea for somebody in my situatioin, or it more designed for people strictly in the IT field. Would somebody with average computer skill like me be aboel to complete teh entry level certification program? how much do they cost adn what kind of time do they require? are there any alternate certifcation programs that you wouel recommend over the MS ones? thanks for any advice

you'd probably feel better about your progress with a general certification like A+ or Network+ from Comptia. Judging from your experience, I would say that the MS certifications will bore or frustrate you with their level of detail. Are you planning on an IT career?

A+ is cake, but probably good for a general user. Network plus is harder, but mostly because the Comptia questions are written very poorly.

Unless you understand client/server stuff, (or want to) these are a bit more then you can handle probably. If you can (most universities offer it) pick up a copy of server 2k3 or 2k and a spare box, start playing with Domain/DNS stuff. You would HAVE to do this in order to get the certs.
