Can Android's browser show all pages in mobile view always?

On my HTC Desire, I have ticked the setting in the default web browser to display pages in mobile mode. But when visiting any site, it still loads the full PC-style page. Can it be forced to view all pages in a mobile like view if the site doesn't have its own mobile version? I'd like to keep the default browser and not have to install another one to accomplish this.

Anyone know how to turn off mobile browsing on the Epic 4G?

Dolphin Browser HD has a setting that lets you make mobile view the default. Not sure how well it works since I don't really use the feature. There's also an extension that lets you quickly switch between mobile and standard view without having to go into the settings every time.

Also, Opera has a mobile view setting.
