I tried to use wiki, but unfortunately wiki doesnt provide opinions and stuff that i want to hear.

so can anybody list the most popular memory types out there?

and then after you list it, can you please tell me which one is considered "superior"

i know i am asking 100 year old questions (which is better: x or y), and i know there isnt a best format, but there must be a certain preference that most people give to

so to recap what i said:

1)what are the most popular types out there?
2)from those most popular, which one is considered as "king of them all"
3)does manufacturer really play a big role? Kingston vs Sony vs SanDisk vs PNY vs FujiFilm ...etc

I assume your talking about desktop computer memory.

Memory type will be determined by the platform (motherboard/chipset) that you have or choose. New memory types are introduced every year or so. The most recent memory types in chronological order are DDR, DDRII, and DDRIII

Within memory type, memory is rated by speed with the higher number being faster
DDR 400,500
DDRII 533,667,800,1066
DDRIII 1066,1333

The current standard and best priced memories are DDRII, DDR is beginning to be phased out and becoming more expensive and hard to find. DDRIII has just been released and is insanely expensive and only supported by a handful of mobos.

IMO brand is not a big factor as long as you stick with the majors
Kingston,Sandisc,Transcend,A-data,Patriot ect...

The format must match your device, CF are the most widely use but there are several
CF, M2(sony), MS pro duo(sony), MicroSD, MiniSD, MiniSDHC, MMC, SD, SDHC, SSD, ect..

The larger the capacity ones 4gb, 8gb have gotten much cheaper, and A-data has a 16gb
A-data 16gb CF
