Can an iPhone 4 work with GPS without Internet Service?

Tomorrow will be my last day as an iPhone user. My job gave me a choice, either get an iPhone 5 or Lumia 920, and iOS no longer interests me at all.

I do need to keep my iPhone in my car since I have a Pioneer AppRadio. I am just wondering if the iPhone 4 will continue to work as a GPS device without service?

I'll most likely tether off of my Nexus 4, but I have the $30 tmobile plan and I think it's capped at 200MB.

I may just go ahead and dump my Appradio altogether, but for now, will I lose GPS functionality? I'll test it tomorrow by pulling my SIM card out and seeing what happens. It's nasty outside now, so I don't feel like going to move the car for no reason.

The GPS radio will work, but it will not have maps. Not sure how your headunit works. I'm basing this off my iPod Touch works as a GPS, but needs wifi to show maps.

Didn't Tom Tom make an offline maps app for iOS?

Anyway I'm sure that there's some out there that would work off line.

He said he was tethering off another device so I think it'll be fine.

That or you just buy a real navigation app like Navigon or Tom Tom or Garmin or whatever. They all have offline modes.

Ack. Doesn't matter. I can't cache maps in Motion-X so the phone will be unreliable for places I haven't visited before.

I'm going to have to just go ahead and buy a new HU for my car with built in navigation and Pandora/BT streaming.

Anyone using WP8 with an aftermarket HU?

Motion-X is the only usable navigation software for my Appradio (at least in my experience) so I'm just going to dump the HU. It'll be easier.

I wanted to keep going with iOS but this picture pretty much summed up my feeling nicely.

I've got a Lumia 920 with a Kenwood head unit w/Bluetooth, what question did you have?

Can I stream Pandora and music off of it? Also, I use Rdio a LOT. It's my #1 reason for not changing my AppRadio out yet.

Which model HU do you have? I am not a fan of the Kenwood GUI, but I'll definitely change my HU if I can use Rdio and Pandora.

I've got a Kenwood HU and I didn't have any problems playing Rdio over bluetooth with a L520 or L920. I can't remember if I was able to change tracks with the remote or on the unit itself though. Otherwise, A2DP worked fine.
