I am fixing a laptop for a friend. I have replaced a couple of bad laptop screens in the past and this one seemed like it would be a piece of cake. This one had been dropped onto a hard surface. There is no apparent physical damage to the screen or laptop. An external monitor works perfectly with either VGA or HDMI.
I purchased a new panel from Amazon and it didn't work. It was a slightly different model number, but they said it was only a revision difference and was 100% compatible. However, since I couldn't get it to work I went back to the place I have used in the past: screencountry.com.
I just got the panel in from screen country and it didn't work either.
All the panels are mostly black with thin vertical colored lines. The original screen had a big grey line on the right side. The screen from Amazon did not have this line, but it had white speckles on the right. The screen from screencountry has a similar smaller line on the very right side of the screen and some white speckles.
My question is that now since two screens have not worked, how likely is the inverter the problem. It seems like an inverter would only affect the lightness/darkness of the screen, not whether it can display more than just lines.
I'm ready to say stuff it and just recoop return fees unless someone says "YES! It's the inverter!"
Thanks!
