Can an epox 8k7a owner please post up a memory benchmark comparision between the shipping bios and the new 1606?

No one has reported anything about the new bios in terms of performance. Someone wanna compare the two? A lot of people would be interested to read it, including me.

My Sandra memory scores dropped by about 5% with the new bios. It does at a cute graphical splash screen when the computer posts though. You know longer see the standard black screen with text when the computer posts but like I said, memory scores take quite a hit. I used the new bios for all but 5 minutes and reloaded the old shipping bios.

Actually, the newest bios is the 1607, not the 1606. The 1607 is Beta though.. One of the benefits is being able to crank the FSB up to 250 with rumored support for a 1/6 PCI divider, but more importantly, support for the Palomino/Athlon MP....

Anyone running the 1607 yet?

Cuz the 1606 wasnt worth my time either.

All my benchmark scores dropped as well.

And that Splash Screen is UGLY!

Well POOP!

I just flashed back to my old.bin & when I go into the bios its asking for a password.

Ive never used a password!

Something screwed up.

So I flashed back & forth from the 1606 & my old.bin a coupla times with no luck.

My old bios wants a password.

So I'm stuck with the 1606 unless some good hearted soul sends me his old.bin so I can try to flash to that. HINT! HINT!

Or anyone knows a trick to bypass that password.

can you try just clearing out the CMOS with the jumper? That usually fixes the "password" problem for me.

Good idea.
I never thought of that.

I'll flash back & give it a try.

Mtdew,
What HSF are you using on your Athlon 1.4 to get to 1.6? I bought a Thermalright SK6 with a 30 CFM Delta, hoping that will get the 1.4 to 1.6. Also, what power supply you using? Thanks

Taisol heatsink CGK760092. (i removed the stock fan)
Replaced fan with a 6500rpm fan I got about a year ago from Step Thermal Dynamics with one of their cooling combos.

Enermax 431w PSU

10.5 x 153
cpu 1.9v
DDR 2.7v
8862222

And I'm using a Bamk case (same as silver alienware).
2 80mm intakes on the side at cpu & AGP level.
1 8mm exhaust at the top.
1 80mm intake at bottom front.
And of course the Enermax has 2 fans.
AMAZINGLY ITS DARN QUIET!

Gotta watch your temps though.
I need to install an AC in my room.
I get up to 53c on a warm day.
But the cpu doesnt seem to care, I only know its that hot if I look. ;)

Oh, I forgot to mention, the 1.9v on the cpu was all I had.

My Epox 8K7A defaults to 1.79v & when I up the voltage a notch it goes to 1.89v.
So 1.85v wasnt an option. :(

And the sucker is stable as a rock, i'd try it higher if the temps didnt scare me so much!

But I'm not complaining, I never thought I'd see 1600mhz with air cooling.

I fugured I'd better add to this b4 I scare someone away from trying 1.6 with my temps.

I dedicated the smallest room in my house as "my room".
Thats where my pc is.
Its 8'x 12'.

Room temp in here gets up to 78f & when my pc heats it up it gets even hotter in here. (it summer!)
So i dont blame my setup for the high temp, I need some AC in this room.

At night when the room is cooler my room /pc temps plummit to a more desirable 43c - 46c.

So I highly doubt you'll see temps as high as I am right now, unless your pc is in your attic.

Now, I just gotta figure out how to convince my "other half" that we
NEED another AC! ;)

Ive been tempted to steal the one from the living room more than once!
