I'm having this arguement with a co-worker who thinks that your employer can and should not allow it's employees from seeing or dating each other, which I think is ridiculous, as I've done it before without a problem. Isn't there a statute or something along those lines which would prohibit an employer from even trying to stop this?

There's no law, but HR can make its own rules. People don't seem to understand that there doesn't have to be a law against something to get you fired. All you have to do is break company policy, which, in turn, results in breaking your contract, and they can fire you with no strings attached.

If it's in your contract that you can't date anyone working at the company, then if you do, you're breaking terms of your contract, so they can fire you.
