Can an average Joe Shmoe like me put in a new processor for a laptop?

Is the procedure difficult? I have put together many desktop systems, but never even opened up a laptop before. I don't want to be screwing around unless someone comforted me in telling me it's a piece of cake :)

Some laptops have upgradeable processors. Some do not. Those that do are easy to upgrade by the average Joe. Those that do not are impossible to upgrade unless you have a fab plant and can solder surface-mount components.

Sometimes just getting the little beasts open is impossible.

laptop designs are so proprietory I think it would be difficult without a technical reference to be able to install it with the proper settings. I've never had the chance to do one myself so I wouldn't know, but that would be my assumption.

Depends on the laptop..... open it up and check if the CPU is soldered on, if you can even open it..
