Is the procedure difficult? I have put together many desktop systems, but never even opened up a laptop before. I don't want to be screwing around unless someone comforted me in telling me it's a piece of cake
Some laptops have upgradeable processors. Some do not. Those that do are easy to upgrade by the average Joe. Those that do not are impossible to upgrade unless you have a fab plant and can solder surface-mount components.
Sometimes just getting the little beasts open is impossible.
laptop designs are so proprietory I think it would be difficult without a technical reference to be able to install it with the proper settings. I've never had the chance to do one myself so I wouldn't know, but that would be my assumption.
