Can an alarm clock cost more because of color?

Okay, this is probably gonna make me look like a dumbass but oh well...So I was in Bestbuy friday, and there are these Sony alarm clock's, the blue and red one's cost 50 dollars each, but the yellow one cost's 40$, can they do this? If they can, my plan would be to buy the 40 dollar one and exchange it at a CC for a dif color, would that work?

evidently they can do that. nobody wants yellow so they're priced lower to clear or something.
edit:
if they're priced differently then the upcs are different, and you won't be able to exchange it.

shady, but yes they can.... marketing bs

It can happen. Sometimes it costs more for certain dies. They are going to have more blue and black ones made so the production cost is cheaper. They'll have less yellow ones made so the production is more expensive for the yellow die. So overall the yellow will cost them slightly more. It's all about demand and supply.

Now, why on earth do companies make things in such wacky colours? They always end up on discount racks anyways!
