I don't want to order an 8x agp card only to find out it won't fit in a 4x agp mother board.
Im ordering from mwave. They have some good deals there but I don't want to pay for restocking if the 8x agp doesn't fit.

The ATI 9700 pro works fine in my 4x board, and besides all of the ones I've seen said they where both 8x and 4x capible.

All present AGP 8X graohics cards are fully backwards compatible with AGP 4X.
Hypothetically one could design a board to only accept ODR signalling voltage of 0.8V, which would restrict it to AGP 8X operation but no graphics cards have taken that route.

all agp cards supposedly are designed for agp slots regardless of speed functionality and compatibliity vary

nope. 8x agp will NOT work in agp 1x or 2x boards. 8x is backwards compatible with 4x only. 4x works in 8x, 4x, 2x, and 1x slots though.
