I'm trying to visit a friend of mine in boston and i need to get a hotel room (they can't have guests during reading period). Can anyone tell me if hotels rent to 18 year-olds or do you have to be 21?

TIA,

you can get a hotel room as long as you have money... the problem is that if you want to make a reservation, you are probably going to need a credit card.

lol. Your question reminds me of what my friends are thinking of doing. A couple of my school friends (all of em 16 or 17) are going snowboarding tomorrow in Lake Tahoe, California. They are planning on staying there 3 days, but since none of them are 18 they couldn't find a hotel to take them in. THey didn't want to bring their parents because 1) they occasionally drink alcohol (yes it's a shock but most teens these days DO do alcohol... better then drugs as long as they aren't DWI) 2) that's just kind of embarassing having your parents along with ur friends on a snowboarding trip :)

Anyways, most hotels only require 18 I think, maybe a couple will spring up for 21.

18 shouldn't be a problem. I was 15, without ID and had cash -- they guy questioned me, but had no problems when I paid up front, in cash.

Yes, you can. Some places let you get rooms even younger. You don't usually don't need a credit card either.

I was in Boston 2 years ago when I was 18. Got a room at a Best Western up near BC with no problems. It depends on the hotel up there. I had to call a few till I found one that would let me get a room.

You should be able to. I got a hotel room once when I was 16, the guy didn't care since I paid up front.

Cash on a ten year old is just as good as cash on a 21 year old. Many places don't care how old your are. However, nicer hotels may be a little more strict.

I believe this is enforced VERY strictly in CA to avoid Motel room clandestine labs.

Hey I just called up the hotel that I stayed in last weekend in Boston, the Midtown Hotel, and they told me that you hafta be 21 and that they'd ask for proof of age if you looked younger.

usually you can rent a room as long as you can pay for it and cover the security deposit.

18 or 21, it's up to the hotel management. A friend of mine ran a motel and said if someone was 18 and local she wouldn't rent to them 'cause they probably just wanted the room to party in and possibly trash the place and annoy other people in the motel. But if someone was 18 and not local she'd rent the room to them.

don't mention age, and you shouldn't have a problem

I look very young(so i'm told) and I've rented a few rooms. Credit card helps though.
I even rented a conference room at a Holiday Inn for a LAN party when I was 18.

As long as you don't mention age, and have a credit card, I don't think many will bring it up.

Only place I ever had trouble with was in Daytona Beach, we were all 20 and no one would rent to us until we were 21. We literally went to like 8 places, until some really seedy motel let us stay overnight. Guess they want to drop that party image over there.
