Can AIW cards capture from a DVD in the DVD_ROM drive?

Just wondering if you need to have an external player to plug into the card's input dongle to capture clips from a DVD, or if the card can do it from an internal source (ie. the DVD_ROM drive in the computer

Another way to ask the same question -- can a DVD be directly loaded in the video editing software, or must a clip be captured by the card first, then loaded into the editor?

Due to Macrovision protection, you cannot capture directly from a DVD player (without a hack) but really, even if you could, simply ripping the DVD will give you a far higher quality.
