can adobe audition restrict the record length/time by user?

I wonder can I limit the time/length of adobe audition of recording a track? Thanks.

By the way, did any one of you try using laptop and a microphone to record a lecture or conversation? I tried to do it but the background "hissing" sound is way too loud. What should I tweat in the setting of my laptop and the software(adobe audition). I know my mic is fine since it works perfectly fine with my MD. But it always cause me an hour or two to convert the MD recording into wave format on the computer.
