Im eager to get on the xeon bandwagon, and want to ultimatly have dual 2.4/533 xeons, but can only afford one right now. If i get a single xeon for dual processing, will it work as a single untill i get the second one?

Sorry, I think the xeon bandwagon already left town, everyones boarding the opteron train right now, cheaper ticket prices and faster trips make for a great alternative! :D

But to answer your question, yes.

Yes, the XEON DP can operate on its own.

If you're an "Intel man", why not get one of the new P4C's? The hyperthreading is supposed to work just as well (or very close) as a dp system, but at a much lower cost. Matter of fact, at the very top of the overclocking forum page is a forum devoted to HT. It's very enlightening...

If you really want a Xeon, get one. But there is no real reason to get one other than A. You really just want one, or B. You want to waste some money.
