Can a wireless AP go this far?

I'll be getting a laptop soon, and will get a linksys WAP11 probably to go with it. I want to know if I can get a signal at my neighborhood pool, which is about 4 houses down (no more then 300 feet, probably less). I want to know if I'll be able to get a signal there, or if I'll need an external antenna. if so, can you get better antennas for the WAP11? Would I need an amplifier? i dont know anything about wireless networking so help me out. Thanks.

You can look at all the Manufactures Sites in the Galaxy, it does not matter what they say concerning this issue.

No way any of the Entry Level Wireless Hardware will cover 4 houses away without clear line of sight.

4 houses down, like line of sight would be obstucted by those houses? If so, you can forget about it, regardless of what antenna your using. If you have unobstructed line of sight from something like a window, then you may have a shot if you have a good client card. Might just be 1 or 2 Mb association but would probably be ok for surfing anyway. Line of sight=perhaps (test to find out) 4 houses in your line of sight=don't waste your time
