can a video card (like a TNT1) affect overall stability on a overclocked system?

i have a friend running a msi kt3 ultra aru mobo with a athlon xp 2000+ (alpha pal8045 w/sunon 39cfm fan) all housed in a antec 1080plus w/430watt antec truepower ps (that's one sweet case)...

thing is, he currently has a TNT1 AGP video card in his system and is getting alot of IE6 errors overclocking at 140fsb (locked cpu).. could it be the tnt1 causing the overall unstability of his system or just the fact that the cpu isnt overclocking well.. though his cooling setup seems pretty good. the alpha pal8045 + the antec case (great airflow characteristics) 3 case fans (1 intake in the front, 1 intake from the side panel, and one exhaust in the back)... appreciate any help. thanks 🙂

with a 140mhz fsb the whole system is running out of spec (pci at 35mhz and agp at 70mhz) so its not way out of spec, but a little

that includes all the agp and pci devices, everything from usb/harddrives/addin card/etc

at the moment, he isn't running anything on the usb, and no addon cards except for the video card.. hard drive is a maxtor d740x 40GB 7200rpm drive (i doubt that would be a prob since i have my xp 1700+ o/ced to 1.628Ghz 11x148fsb).. so it's a pretty bare system right now..

I would blame the CPU instead of the video card. The only way to test it, however, is to unlock it, or put a CPU that is known to go well over 140 FSB in the same setup. Just because it's a TNT1 doesn't necessarily mean that it can't handle being out of spec.

The best way to find this out is to put your FSB back to default levels and see if you get errors? By putting the AGP out of spec., it has a chance that this card you have can not handle the higher voltages? Try doing this first and then if it works, and still want to O/C, move up with small adjustments. G'Luck

I would not think the problems relates to the TNT card. I had several TNT1 cards that ran perfectly at 75mhz. I stll have one that's running at 83mhz.

As the others have said it isn't sure it is the video-card. It being a TNT1 doesn't matter, it's the quality of the card itself, that and of course luck.
My TNT ran perfectly fine at 83Mhz agp but it was a good brand (Asus).

It could be anything really, though I would wonder about the RAM. My Epox 8KHA+ based system crashes if I go above 135FSB!!! I don't know what exactly is limiting me. When overclocking the FSB, as Boonesmi said, the whole system is likely to be out of spec then - that means that the weakest component will give you your limit.
