Can a USB keyboard accept a USB to PS/2 adapter as does a USB mouse?

Can a USB keyboard accept a USB to PS/2 adapter as does a USB mouse?

Also, since this is used as a PS/2 keyboard, can it be used in Windows 98 without USB support?

Yes, and in fact, my Logitech USB keyboard is being used this way on my PC right now, and it doesn't matter what OS, as it will be operating as a PS/2 device, which pretty much all OS's support.

is there an advantage to running USB instead of PS/2 for the keyboard? i understand why with mice, especially the really high performance ones, but keyboards?

The real answer is a definite "probably." USB is very different from PS/2. But many devices can detect which one they are using, and adapt accordingly. If your USB keyboard came with an adapter, then you can use it.

And if the keyboard CAN accept a PS/2 adapter, then the computer WILL see it at a PS/2 keyboard. No USB support needed.

For for all practical purposes, every USB keyboard that I have seen can also do PS/2, but this does not mean that none exist.

Many motherboards are becoming "legacy-free." I would not be surprised to see no motherboard shipping with PS/2 ports in a few years. When that happens, I would expect that keyboard would start dropping PS/2 support soon after that.

No much of an advantage that I know of. Just use whichever you prefer. Of course I am not a FPS gamer. I am sure that hard-core games have stronger preferences. But for office work, it does not matter.

From a practical standpoint, having one USB connector is nicer than one PS/2 and a USB going to a USB->PS/2 adapter (but I have a wireless keyboard/mouse combo).
