Yup, he's right....only 4x Burning (1200kbps) since USB can only have a sustained transfer rate of around 1500kbps ish maximum (1.5mbps).

If they only have USB 1.1 and do not plan on uprading then I would say yeah get a 4x4x6x writer, you should be able to get quite a slim one and ensure that you get one that has burnproof, because USB isn't totally stable.

But, if you can get USB 2.0 writer for not much more money, then it may be worth it, hey...you can get a 2 port USB 2.0 card for pennies, some USB 2.0 writers even come with them!

Yeah, USB 1.1 spec is only 11mbps max, which is about 4x recording speed. However, if the price difference isn't too much (as in like $10-20), then you would probably be better going for the USB2 version, as if the client decides to upgrade their computer to one with USB2, or decides to add a USB2 card, then you will not have to go out and buy another CDRW. That in itself will probably be worth the extra few $, for the upgradability and future use of it :)

1.5MBps = 10X CD speed. 1X is 150KBps. That's theoretical throughput of course. Actual performance will vary.

USB1.1 is 1.5 megabytes per second, not megabits. 12 megabits per second.

If it was 1.5 megabits/s that's only a bit over 1X, which is 1200Kbps. :) I don't have any clue where 4X could have come from.
