my current motherboard only supports 200mhz cpu bus and I plan to upgrade to 1.2ghz cpu soon but i also plan to upgrade the motherboard later down the line. its logical to get a 266 bus cpu and clock it to 200 so later with the new motherboard I can run it at 266, but is this possible?

the only diff between a 200mhz cpu and a 266mhz cpu is the multiplier. The multiplier is set lower so it will be able to run on a 266mhz bus. 9x133= 1.2ghz, so on a 200mhz bus you will get 9x100= 900mhz. If your mobo supports multiplier adjustments, then you can change it in the bios or by jumpers to 12x100= 1.2ghz
