Can a Socket 7 hs/fan work with a Socket A cpu?

It could probably be done, although I don't think the hsf/coolers will be able to handle the amount of heat generated by an Athlon/Duron. For the money you could save, you're better off getting a socket a hsf, or you risk burning the processor.

Just my 2 cents...

Don't try using that even if it fits into the socket-A. there is no way the fan be able to handle the heat disipated by the chip.

I personally tried this, and i have to say NO!!!!

COmputer locked up every 15 min or so. Even though it technically "fit", the clip didn't apply enough pressure down on the processor, so there was actually a small gap between the core and the HS. Don't kill a processor by doing this. :)

I have heard of people using Socket A heatsink/fan on Intel Processors, but the other way round is really too risky.

Depends on which one you're using. I have, with great success, used the FDP32 and the original FOP32...with the ridge cut down. Duron 700 @ 959 on an Asus A7V @1.85v with Bios 1004A and temp of 44C. Stable as can be.

Can be done. But even if it could handle the heat I wouldnt sudgest it. Why you ask. Why is because the socket A heatsinks are made not to rock so you dont screw up the chip. socket 7 arent. the socket A chips are fragile & can be broken with incorrect installation or the incorrect heat sink. check out the socket A heatsinks at www.titan-cd.com to look at the base & you will see what I am talking about.

When my heatsink is on I can try to rock it back & forth but the only movement I get is the MB flexing (dont try that at home kiddies)
