Can a Slingbox be used with a sat system?

I am going to be putting another tv in a separate room and was wondering if a slingbox will work. Can you select different channels other than what is being watched on another tv or do you get what is being currently viewed. Does anyone use this? Thanks

You probably need IR blaster to change channels. I think it comes with one.

you mean satellite internet or satellite tv
i have directv satellite tv with a dvr
my slingbox is connected to the dvr, i can watch my dvr from anywhere on my local network or the whole entire intraweb
the software has a remote, you put these little IR transmitter/reciever thingys near the IR port on the DVR

Satellite TV....for example....say I was watching a movie live off the satellite...can someone else select a differnt channel in the house using the slingbox to watch a different show. Thanks

no , it doesn't make it so you have two devices, i just makes it so you can watch it in more than one place, at the same time

so i can see what the dvr is playing at home on the tv , while i am at work
if my wife at home changes the channel with the remote, what i see on the sling software at work changes. if i use the software remote in the software to change the channel, then what my wife sees on the TV at home changes too
