I think you should watch your back. If the folder was in a place you keep organized then is more than likely that someone is trying to frame you.I have clicked on dialog boxes that installed a bunch of crap on my computer but they usually do it in generic folders that windows created by default. There are devices that let you track computer usage...get one of those.

Not without your knowledge. You may have accidentally clicked Yes on a web install dialog box when you should have clicked No, but that's not too likely either.
As already mentioned, the likely scenarios are:
Work comp - someone else is using your computer for their pr0n surfing and/oryou are being framed. Delete files completely NOW.
Home comp - once again, someone else is using your computer, possibly roommate or teenage son?

Why is it always the son? Can't it ever be the daughter?

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

It could be that he works at home, but then again he wouldn't be so afraid of the porn.

Do any co-workers have access to your computer? Is it password-locked? I've never seen reports of applets creating folders in the My Documents folder ... but then again, these scumbags can code something like this overnight. Sigh ...
This is a work computer at a work (business) location. The date was something like 10/8/2002 and I can swear I don't visit those sites. The folder they were in was named my last name. I lock my computer 90% of the time I walk away, but not for getting coffee.

I'm afraid either someone is using my computer, or an applet did this. I'd hate to think a sysadmin overrode my screenlock to do this off-hours. I did a pgp-wipe of the files so they're gone.

Pretty scary.
That is very scary. Someone was trying to frame you up I think. That or hide their own surfing habits on your computer. Either way, watch your back.

Ya know, this sounds like a practical joke to me...

Are you buds with the network admin? Is your computer windows 2000?

with NT/win2k, it's very easy for anyone with the local admin pw to access the default share on your computer and from there they can do pretty much anything.. if you are afraid of getting busted by HR, i'd bring it up and make a big stink about it and ask that something be done to prevent this from happening. hopefully they'll give you a unique password to lock down your machine

Its odd to turn on your computer and see all those damn pop-ups and you're history containing hundreds of x rated files. From then on I lock my computer down and changed the password on it. I have heard once someone did hacked into our server and used as a sex site server....... pretty funny with everyone gone in the office and you'll still see the server transfering files non-stop. :)

I hope you disinfected the whole area and bought a new keyboard, mouse, and chair.

There's no way he could lock down his machine unless is was permanently disconnected from the network. If they run any kind of network software, then the machine needs to have the Domain Admin user permissions enabled... or another account with full computer access.

It can definatly happen w/o anyone knowing. I've had some stupid stuff installed on my computer w/o getting a message before. I forget the name of the software, but it just started installing. I uninstalled it right away and emailed the company that they hacked into my computer illegally and that I was looking at taking legal action. They just told me that they arn't responsible for what 'other' people do with their software.
