I bought a Craftsman push mower off craigslist and the first time I started I broke the pull rope. Is it possible to put this one back on or do i have to buy a new kit?

Usually it breaks off right at the end. If you do rewind it with the old rope, just remember not to pull it all the way out and it will still work. Remove the handle.
Remove the housing and rewind it, then re-tension it before tying the handle back on.
Use small vice grip to hold rope while you tie handle back on.

You want to replace the rope if you go to the trouble.

If it broke, it's probably time to replace it.

I took the top plastic housing off, how does this part come off?

Looks like the mower we had. Had to drill those out and replace. Wasn't exactly a fun process replacing it.

WTF?! Why would they design it that way???

Because you'll never have a clue that it's designed that way when you buy it. People tend to buy on price, not on maintainability so they company has no incentive to make it so you can actually fix it when it breaks.

you can pull the tank and entire upper shroud off with a few bolts. No need to drill it now if you don't want to. It is a bit tricky to wind with it on the shroud, but doable.
