No. A power supply can't provide too much power for a computer. Just make sure it's compatible with the the system. For example, is the existing power supply an standard ATX-sized unit?

Usually Power supplies need to be loaded to 50% or more iirc to hit their efficiency.

So yea you could buy one that's too high but it will not damage anything just run less efficient.

It doesn't mean that the whole thing will always be using what the PSU is rated at, the PSU will draw the power it need.

Unless you plan on going SLI or Crossfire in the future it's not advisable to go too far above what your PSU needs as it will be running inefficiently. so no point going for 1000W just for the sake of it.

A power supply that has more than enough juice for your system will just hold the extra energy idle so essentially it will be just fine.

It'll just be a waste of money and energy, but should function well most of the time.
Generally it's better to get a power supply that is efficient at the load levels you commonly run on the machine.
