Can a playstation 2 read burned VCDs?

My standalone DVD player refuses to read CDRs, and will get a bit on a CDRW and choke after 5 seconds.

Is the PS2 any different? I dont want to waste any more CDs.

If you live in Thailand 90% of the films you buy are on vcd and they are pirate. You can barely buy original in Thailand.
