If a person is born into middle class, are they destined to stay there? And does the same go for lower class, and upper classmen as well?

Easily. Look at Indonesia's (or was it India's [/i]) president. He was a paria when he was born (untouchable, and not in the good way). Now he's friggin' president!

Depends on what you mean by class........... Can a person who is poor or middle class become wealthy? Sure. I've done it once....maybe twice depending on what you consider wealthy. Do I fit in with "old money"? Absolutely not. I'll leave that to my kids/ grankids hopefully............

Is this along the lines of "it's what you make of it"?

Most of the time? No.

You can take the person out of the trailer park but you can't take the trailer park out of the person is true most of the time.

However, there are instances where this is not true. Some of the classiest people I've met have been poorer than dirt, and I've met some people who come from a long line of money and they were some of the lowest scum I've ever seen.

Upon further thought, its more or less up to how you define class. Is it wealth? Is it personality? Is it due to what culture you subscribe to? Some combination?

For me, class is all about how you treat others and handle yourself. Just because you go to the opera and openings at the Louvre doesn't make you a classy person. Neither does having money. However, its not just your personality, as you can treat others well but that doesn't necessarily mean you have class.

Its very possible for poor to become wealthy. In fact, I'd say its easier to do that than to go from middle class wealth to upper class wealth.

Its much more difficult to change your affluency. If you enjoy monster truck rallies, its difficult to thumb your nose at it and become an opera lover.

I've always found myself to be somewhat odd when it comes to this. I enjoy the finer things of life. I like classical music, I like dining at nice restaurants, and I like doing formal things (so getting dressed up in a tux, etc.). However at the same time, I do enjoy a good drag race, I like crude lowbrow humor, and I like simple baseless entertainment. For me, things like that doesn't really matter much. I just try to carry myself and treat others with a certain level of dignity and respect and find the things that are important to me.

I like art, but I'm no connesieur. For me, an exceptional painting is no more or less meritible than a nice day out on the beach with some friends having some fun drinking.

I guess to me, I would say that true class has no real boundaries. I don't know that I would say its possible to attain class. Perhaps with very strict discipline, but its mostly inherent in your being. If you have class, it doesn't matter where you are in life, rich or poor, you will exhibit it.

Wow, what a rumbling incoherent mess that is. :D

basically

Hmm. Because I used to believe that sh!t, and now, it is nothing more than a crock of sh!t. Because it is oneself that ruins your days, it's the fvckers you work for, or the fckers you work with, or the fvckers you have to deal with at work. And I pity the person that has to deal with the same sh!t when they get home. I've been in a relationship like that. Ugh, fvcking hell....

A bitter subject, but I'll answer.

I've seen some of the happiest people in my life, two matter of fact. One was religious, one was wealthy.

My parents are happy, poor as hell, and making the best of it, as is most of my family.

I came from (very?) low class, to middle class, and now I'm about to lose my job. So yea, I'm worried. I've gotten accustomed to a level of living, and I hate to take my wife and I to below where we are. It scares the living sh!t out of me. My wife says she doesn't mind either way, but she's never really had to suffer in life. I've been starved, beaten, abused, etc., so it fundamentally doesn't bother me. But I would absolutely hate to have to return to that lifestyle. Sometime I wonder if death wouldn't be better. And for all of you fvckers who would say "blah blah blah fvcking blah", STFU, you haven't been there.

So to answer your question, I find myself in a realm of which I honestly believe in respect of oneself and others, yet few other people do. But even respect doesn't pay bills. So I guess my class system is based upon that...

low class = struggling
middle class = paying bills and some extra
upper class = bills??????

(thanks for the post darkswordsman17; it was the best so far)

That's caste, not class; if I'm not mistaken.

Crime and marriage are the two most popular ways to escape your class. It is best to have a woman do the crime and then marry her.
