My wifes mother board Died and I have an extra p4b533-e but no cpu for it. what is my best upgrade for this board? I would like to get the hyperthreading of the 800mhz cpu if possable If not I will go with the P4 2.4 533mhz.
Ps I will be running a watercooler on the cpu for overclocking.
Thanks

I asked about this last month and didn't find the answer i was looking for. The bios on the p4b533-5 has the FSB setting that goes up to 200. This is the corect setting for the 800 chips right? My friend is bringing over his system tomorrow so I can test a "c" chip in my comp.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. The bios on my p4b533 lets me pump up the fsb to 400 :)
Please keep us updated. If it works, I'm gonna get a 2.6c :D

Ok I got the 2.4
I updated the bios on the p4b533-e and installed the cpu.
It started up and ran at 1.2 ghz so I changed around some settings and bump the fsb to 200mhz .
no go! it will not run at 2.4ghz .
I tried several times and all I got was a corupt windows and had to reinstall.:disgust:
So I messed with it some more with a fresh copy of win XP and the highest the motherboard will handle is 195mhz fsb.
so its running hyperthreaded at 2.339mhz !

Well It does work but not quite right.

Thanks for the update!!

Too bad... looks like I'll have to stick with my 1.6a for a little longer :p

Or I could get the 2.6c and run it at 2.54 (13x195).... faster than my non-HT 2.54, and upgrade later.

BTW, which revision of the mb do you have?

Also, they have a beta bios if you want to try it... ver 1015.003

Perhaps the memory that is in the computer just can not handle 200fsb.
You might want to try memtest86 to see if it is erroring out.

Bump that Vdimm to 2.8v for that memory..

Run a 5:4 divider. You can probably push a 240+ FSB and have that memory running around 190-195.

Thats the bios I have. I think it is a chipset or motherboard limitation.
I doubt its the memory I tried all those setting and nothing past 195 will work.
I orded another board from newegg I'm getting a p4p800 delux.
