to be honest this is why I don't like a marketing become a mod in here especially on anandtech, and its seems they can get away with it while other member get infraction or vacation

this is some example (there are many more but i don't remember it)

Oh, and another thing. Did anyone know that the current owner of KitGuru, name of "Zardon" from Driverheaven, now called Hardware heaven, is the guy who once started the contest for the most creative way to destroy a GeForce 6800Ultra? Many can research Zardons past views as well. Not exactly friendly to Nvidia over the years.

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/other-tech-news/62246-driverheaven-destruction.html

Same guy owns KitGuru. If there are any members who don't wish to know this kind of stuff or if you think it does not pertain to this thread, let me know.

in this thread : http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2155971&page=4

please a mod should have been neutral like IDC and give a good example to ppl and not BREAKING the RULE.

I doubt it. But I didn't see a rule broken there. But then the rule probably isn't written down anywhere either.

It is physically possible to give a moderator an infraction. It's even possible to ban a moderator.

But that's all theoretical, I don't see what you're complaining about there.

Mods are allowed to post as members which means they can be biased and such.
And they are not allowed to mod threads they post in.

I have an will continue to infract other mods when they step out of line. Nobody here is "above the law" although some may suspect otherwise.

Correct, and i've gotten in trouble for my posts as well, see above.

perhaps not. but consistency needs to be worked on by the mods..

i do remember one mod getting a 2-3 day ban? shit my old age is getting to me i can't remember what happened but a fe joked about it

That isn't true. I have seen a few different mods post things which have gotten others bans but have never seen them banned because of it.
You can't say it isn't true. I can't say some don't get away with some stuff mainly because not all mods have equal power and not all mods can moderate in all areas. Just because things may get overlooked or hashed out in the public eye, doesn't mean things don't happen behind the scenes as well.

Consistency, perhaps yes. But we are a volunteer staff and not all of us check all areas. See above.

I know one time I had a discussion with IDC in the Mod Discussion forum a while back where he basicly said that while you may not see blatant infractions and warnings towards mods there is a lot of behind the scenes discussion going on. So instead of directly warning a Mod in a thread it gets taken care of through other channels.

He was even kind enough to show me proof that this was occurring. You should consider that this may be happening before making such accusations in a public manner.

hey, I don't mind if mod was biased, as long as its not thread craping and derailing the thread and after the fact that a SUPER MOD doing it. Make me feel uncomfortable. And i don't care they post as a mod or not, because in my eyes a mod should give a good example to other member.

I can say things aren't being handled equally.

not all mods can moderate in all areas.

Is there a list of mods and there relevent areas and power?

Something like this.

Forum director
Assistant forum director
Administrator
ect.
ect.
ect.

Is there a open door policy at Anandtech, such as if you don't agree with a mod decision you can ask his boss or thee boss for an appeal?

or do they all work together behind the scenes and make final decisions with knowone to answer too but themselves?

What is the personal issues forum for?
It seems to me when someone has a real personal issue to be made public and its being discussed, the mods lock the thread and gang bang you in the mod disscussion forum, especially when many other have the same issue with the forum.
Most of the time you goto the mod disscussion area the mods back each other no matter what even if they know they are wrong.

I think we need an area to voice our personal issues in public with other members, without the threat of a infraction or a mod locking the thread as soon as we speak about personal issues here in OUR forum.

In the United States where I live elected officials are governed and thrown out of office by the people if they are corrupt or mis use their power. I can walk down my city street and say out loud my mayor sucks and we should get rid of him.

The difference is if I'm the only one saying it, it does not matter but if I have 4,000 people behind me, people start to listen.

Mabe thats why so many threads get locked in this forum?

Try that at work.

Try that at work.

This isn't an office. It's a forum. They are very different, but I see what you are trying to say.

And if my boss did something crappy at work I would go (and have gone) above his head and talk to his boss.

Try that at work.

are you saying there isn't a power structure at work? or a chain of command? or accountability? i'm not sure which part of his post you were suggesting he try at work.

or the telling the boss you think he sucks part? that part i could see not flying.

isn't the private mod forum better suited to this sort of thing anyway?

Fine but I bet if you walked around the office spouting how he sucked you'd be escorted out the door by security after cleaning out your desk.

There are 4 levels of authority in these forums. Forum Mods and Super Mods, Admins, Forum Directors and Anand himself with the Forum Directors and Anand having the final say (Forum Directors are in essence Anand by proxy). The Forum Mods and Super Mods do most of the legwork, the Admins usually consult and do some Moderating and the Forum Directors have the final say, usually after consulting with the Admins. If you have a complaint about the moderating create a thread in the Moderator Discussion Forums, almost all the Admins and both of the Forum Directors check those threads out constantly and if there is something amiss or that needs to be discussed we take it up and usually come to a ruling by consensus. If per chance we can't agree then it gets kicked up to Anand and he makes the final ruling.

We discuss everything, we go back and look at precedents and edicts handed out in the past by Anand and past Forum Directors and we also look at the past behavior of members who are doing the complaining to determine whether they are the problem or if they have been unnecessarily singled out. While we might not always agree we definitely look at it from all angles. We do this more now than we ever have in the past.

I think we'd all agree that it's not perfect but IMO we go the extra mile to make sure it's as fair as could be. I can assure you that moderating/administrating these forums is a lot more work now than it was in the past

the fact that you took the time to post this shows how much things have changed since the cloak and dagger days of old.

i do sorta miss the "mod list" tho, that was always a source of entertainment. people who claimed to hack into secret forum sections and download lists of mods and admin and the lists they kept on forum members. good stuff.

isn't this the definition of a mod callout?

Fine but I bet if you walked around the office spouting how he sucked you'd be escorted out the door by security after cleaning out your desk.

Thats not quite what I was saying.

In an office setting , it would be like a group of office workers at lunch having a personal talk about there bosses without the bosses sitting next to them. A way to get a feel for what the other employees think of the bosses and how things are being ran.

Now picture the lunchroom as a section in our forum that is for these types of personal issues. Somewhere where there is no such thing as a mod callout, a locked thread ,or infraction. A place where we can express our feelings about our forum, and the administration freely.

What would be the problem with something like that?

Say I started a personal thread with a titile like "does anyone else have a problem with " " mod treating you unfairly? It would be nice to know if I'm not alone and others have been treated unfairly also.

Sounds more fair then going to the bosses office (in private and alone) with 15 bosses (mod forum) and being told to bad this is the way we do things for the reasons we choose and you and the other members can post somewhere else if you don't like it.

On the other hand it could be for positive praise for a mod or some other situation such as "IDC is a great and fair mod".

It s also a good way to drum up support for change in our forums in a positive way by letting others voice there opinions also.

Sort of like a workers union meeting. If enough people are unsatisfied there is positive change and impeachment if nessasary.

Mabe I'm wrong and all of the members here as a whole should have no input on the rules here and thats the way it should stay, but that sure does sound like a dictatorship to me.

This thread has been derailed and the last few posts have nothing to do with the the topic.

It has morphed into something not even resembling the topic of can a mod be infracted ? (the answer is yes, BTW)

Before I lock this, I will however say the following.

For those that think we act with an itchy trigger finger? Red has spoken the truth.

We discuss at length, the fairest way to deal with the problems. Many of you have no idea how much time and effort we put in to be as fair as possible.
