If they can fit 20+ clowns in a VW bug, I'm sure a minivan can hold 8 :p

Depends on the situation. If all other seats are taken and its me and 3 300lb guys in back seat...NOT comfortable. Me and 3 hot lookin women in back = comfortable :D. In this scenario, my lap = extra seat.

No. Why not rent a real full size van? Like an 2500 or E-350 etc?

How long are you renting for, how many miles do you plan to drive, will you have much luggage, and are we talking about 8 full size adults?
You might want to at least think about a full size passenger van or a Chevy Suburban type SUV.

I need one to ride from oakland to LA (~6 hours drive).. I found out that there are minivan for 8 people (Chevy Astro).

Thanks for your help guys.. I made up that I won't rent if the car is only for 7 people (some minivan has only 7 people capacity)

Rent a Uhaul truck and line it with mattresses. You could fit more people if you wanted! Pick up some hitchhikers along the way..

Go full sized
My caravan seats 7 but the 3 in the back would be uncomfortable and there would be very little room for anything else unless you stick it on the roof. Mine isn't an extended though so you might be able to find one with more last row leg room.

at the very least, get an Astro or Safari extended. My dad has one of those, and we went on short trips in the before. It's doable.
